The component sorter is a constructible object added with the Fallout 4 add-on Contraptions Workshop.

Characteristics

When wired to generators outputting at least 3 power, a given component can be placed into the component sorter. Then, when junk item(s) are fed into the component sorter from an input conveyor belt, those items containing the chosen component will be sorted onto a different output conveyor belt than items not containing that component. This can be used to funnel specific components into production machines connected by conveyor belts, such as a weapon forge or armor forge.

A similar machine, the general sorter, can be used for sorting items without checking their scrap components.

Notes

The component sorter will only function when provided junk items; unscrapped weapons, armor, and apparel will pass through without sorting.
