Metamphetamine[1][2][3][4] is a pre-War recreational drug. As referenced in-game, "metamphetamine" may refer to the in-world equivalent to methamphetamine, or may instead be a simple spelling mistake.[5] It is also known by the slang term "crank", when it is referenced in conversation with Myron in 2241.[6]
The Nuka-Cola Corporation attempted to produce a coffee-flavored variant of its flagship beverage, that included experimental versions replacing caffeine with dextromethamphetamine.[7]
Notes
A miscellaneous item named "Flour" appears in Fallout: New Vegas. Given that three instances of the item are found in the Red Rock drug lab, the euphemistic name of the item indicates that it could represent a powdery drug such as methamphetamine, cocaine, or even perhaps another substance used to cut drugs.
Appearances
Methamphetamine is mentioned indirectly in Fallout 2.
Behind the scenes
It is unclear as to whether or not Jet is a form of methamphetamine. In Fallout 2, Jet is referred to as a "metamphetamine" on two occasions, by Renesco and in Jet's item description. While this could mean that it is a meta- amphetamine, this term is not widely used anywhere in Fallout or the real world. It is possible that the mentions of "metamphetamine" are typos for "methamphetamine" (which is not mentioned in-game), but this has never been clarified or corrected anywhere.[1][3]
