The Rusty Protectron is a unique Protectron found at the Whitespring Refuge in Appalachia.

Background

One of many Protectrons in the Whitespring's robotic staff, this robot was tampered with by the desperate refugee, who attempted to insert a holotape into the Protectron to give it the personality of her recently deceased dog, Rusty.[1] However, the holotape became jammed inside the Protectron, leading it to shut down.[2]

Notes

After repairing the Protectron, when interacted with, it will say generic Protectron dialogue. However, when left alone, it will occasionally say new, unique lines on its own, reflecting the "Rusty" personality.

Appearances

The Rusty Protectron appears in Fallout 76, introduced in the Expeditions: The Pitt update.

References

  1. Vault Dweller: "Why did you put the holotape in a robot?"
Desperate refugee: "It seems so silly now, but I'd read stories about people downloading their personalities into robots in Astoundingly Awesome Tales magazines."

  2. Desperate refugee: "I'm really sorry to bother you, but do you know anything about fixing robots?"
Vault Dweller: "Broken robot? I think I actually stumbled across it already."
Desperate refugee: "You did? Oh geez, I was hoping it wasn't that noticeable. I really need your help! I screwed up real bad! I think I might have broke one of the robots here and I don't know how to fix it!"
Vault Dweller: "Calm down. I can help you."
Desperate refugee: "Oh, thank God! And thank you! I tried to load a holotape into one of the robots here. I know I shouldn't have, but I did. The tape got jammed and the robot shut down and I don't know how to fix it! I'm so worried I'm going to get in trouble. I have nowhere else to go if I get kicked out of the Whitespring!"
