| For the cellar of Gorski cabin, also called root cellar, see Gorski cabin. |
The root cellar is a shelter built in Sanctuary Hills, under a neighboring property two houses east of the Sole Survivor's house in 2287.
Layout
It is a small cellar containing a single mattress, a safe and various pre-War foods strewn across the floor and shelves, built by the owner, Jahani, before the war. The doors can be found behind the house just before the cul-de-sac in the northeast part of Sanctuary Hills, next to wild mutfruit plants.
Notable loot
- Three gold bars can be found on the ground, under the shelf and on the safe.
Notes
- The game files (cell name is "SanctuaryBasementJahani") suggest that this man-made underground shelter was owned or constructed by Jahani and, by association, that he occupied the attached house. The wild mutfruit plants are purposely planted next to the cellar entrance at the rear of the house. There is a store of military ammo inside and a duffle bag cache hidden on the roof, along with the stocked shelter.
- The root cellar is not present in the pre-War prologue of the game.
- The containers in the root cellar are safe to use for storage and do not respawn.
- Although its entrance is within the settlement boundaries of Sanctuary, the root cellar itself is not part of the settlement. As such, workshop modifications are unavailable in the cellar. Settlers in Sanctuary and enemies will never enter the root cellar, and items stored within also will not be pilfered for crafting by workbenches.
- Since entering the root cellar requires the game to load into another area, it may be the first convenient place available to the player early in the game other than Vault 111 to take shelter from a radstorm.
- Companions will enter the root cellar with the player, including robotic companions, but the Lover's Embrace perk is not available if the bed is used (the well-rested perk will trigger).
- In Survival Mode, the mattress in this root cellar is the quickest place the player can reach to sleep, when emerging from Vault 111 for the first time.
Appearances
The root cellar appears only in Fallout 4.
